Our marriage

Nancy and I married in 1982 and I began graduate school. Within two months, we decided to trade roles so that Nancy could pursue the career to which she felt called.

Ever since then, we’ve carried out a collaborative and sacrificial, though sometimes unconventional, relationship that has sustained me through hard times.

We think a few features of our marriage are worth sharing with others. These include our mutually submissive style of decision making, our long tradition of providing surprise special events and trips for each other; our disciplined approach to money management; and our unexpected joy in expressing love to each other as moderately competent salsa dancers.

We haven’t published on these issues, but if you think we could be helpful to your marriage or others, feel free to reach out.
